Thanks to its excellent properties-such as high strength, light weight, high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and good electrical insulation-fiberglass yarn is widely used across various industrial and consumer sectors. Its core applications can be categorized as follows:
Construction and Infrastructure
As a key reinforcing material, it is frequently added to concrete to significantly enhance structural tensile strength and crack resistance. It can be woven into mesh fabrics for wall reinforcement and waterproofing protection, and used to manufacture components such as FRP rebar, exterior wall panels, and daylighting panels; certain dyed fiberglass yarns are even used to create artistic patterns on building facades. Additionally, it serves as the primary raw material for fiberglass insect screens, which offer insect protection, ventilation, UV resistance, and flame/aging resistance, making them suitable for a wide range of window frames.
Transportation
In the automotive industry, it is used to manufacture lightweight composite components-such as car bodies, bumpers, and hoods-reducing overall vehicle weight and improving fuel efficiency while maintaining structural strength. In the aerospace sector, its lightweight and high-strength characteristics make it an ideal structural reinforcement material for aircraft and rockets, effectively reducing dead weight and enhancing flight performance. It is also utilized in the manufacture of ship hulls, decks, and high-speed train bodies, improving component corrosion resistance and operational efficiency.
New Energy and Industry
Wind Power Industry: Specialized wind-grade fiberglass yarn is the core reinforcement material for wind turbine blades, enabling the development of massive blades exceeding 110 meters in length; approximately 7 tons of fiberglass yarn are consumed for every 1 MW of installed wind power capacity.
Industrial Anti-corrosion and Thermal Insulation: When combined with resin, it can be used to create linings for chemical storage tanks and anti-corrosion piping, providing resistance against acids and alkalis. It can also be woven into texturized fiberglass cloth for boiler insulation, pipe wrapping, and fire curtains-capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1,000°C-as well as for high-temperature flue gas dust removal, achieving filtration efficiencies of up to 99.5%.
Pipe and Conveyor Belt Reinforcement: Winding the yarn around the exterior of plastic pipes can triple their pressure-bearing capacity, while embedding it within rubber conveyor belts significantly extends the equipment's service life.
