Pre-application Preparation
Material Check: Ensure the fiberglass cloth is free from damage or moisture; select the appropriate specification for the application (e.g., alkali-resistant type for exterior walls, silicone-coated type for fireproofing).
Environment and Tools: Ensure the work area is well-ventilated and prepare tools such as gloves, safety goggles, scissors, and rollers. Clean the bonding surface beforehand to ensure it is dry and free of oil, grease, or debris.
Core Operational Steps
Cutting: Allow for a 5–10 cm margin beyond the required dimensions. Cut the cloth in a single pass using sharp scissors on a flat surface, ensuring sufficient overlap length at the edges; do not fold the fabric. Laying: Unroll the cloth from the center outward. Use a roller to thoroughly eliminate air bubbles and ensure the surface is flat and wrinkle-free. When applying multiple layers, stagger the orientation of each layer by 30–90 degrees to prevent structural failure caused by stress aligning with the warp or weft threads.
Treatment of Special Areas: Apply small pieces of fiberglass cloth at a 45-degree angle at the corners of door and window openings to prevent cracking. Add a reinforcement layer at external corners, and wrap the cloth around the corner edge, pressing it firmly into place.
Curing Control: Maintain an ambient temperature of 20–25°C. Standard curing time is approximately 4–6 hours; avoid water exposure or washing for 4 hours after application.
Key Precautions
Personal Protection: Wear gloves and a mask throughout the process. Avoid direct skin contact with the fibers to prevent irritation or itching, and prevent inhalation of fibers, which could damage the respiratory tract.
Construction Environment: Application temperature must be above 5°C. Avoid working in rainy or windy conditions, and ensure relative humidity does not exceed 85% to allow the bonding material to cure properly.
Post-application Maintenance: Avoid scratching the cloth surface with sharp objects. Promptly replace the cloth if damage or aging is detected, and regularly inspect fixing points for looseness.
