Performance requirements vary significantly depending on the scenario; prioritize matching the product category to the specific use:
Standard interior wall crack prevention: Choose standard alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh (80–100g/m²). It offers excellent cost-performance, is suitable for wall plastering and drywall joint reinforcement, and is easy to install without interfering with subsequent putty application.
Exterior wall insulation / Critical ground-floor areas: Choose high-alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh (140–160g/m²) with a 4mm × 4mm mesh size. Ensure the alkali-resistant tensile breaking strength (warp and weft) is at least 750N/50mm to withstand wind pressure, rain, and the alkalinity of cement.
Small-area spot repairs: Choose self-adhesive fiberglass mesh. It requires no extra glue-simply stick it on directly-making it ideal for quickly repairing cracks in older homes or drywall joints.
Coastal or highly alkaline environments:Choose fiberglass mesh with a zirconium-based alkali-resistant coating. It should have an alkali-resistance retention rate of ≥95%, ensuring it does not easily pulverize or fail during long-term exposure to humid, highly alkaline conditions.
Verify key quality indicators to avoid pitfalls
Check alkali resistance: Prioritize products containing over 14.5% zirconium dioxide. Inferior products lack sufficient zirconium content; they can corrode and pulverize due to cement mortar within 1–2 years, leading to wall cracking.
Check tensile strength: High-quality products have balanced warp and weft tensile strength and do not easily tear or deform during installation. Special coating treatments at the mesh intersections prevent fiber slippage or detachment over time.
Feel the mesh texture: Quality products feature a flat surface and uniform mesh openings, free of burrs or broken strands. Inferior products have uneven thickness, snap easily when pulled, and fail to provide effective crack prevention later on.
Optimize selection based on construction needs and costs
Large-area exterior wall projects: Choose large rolls (1 meter wide, 100 meters long) to minimize the number of seams and improve construction efficiency.
Narrow corners and edges: Choose narrow-width mesh (0.5–0.6 meters) for easier handling in tight areas such as window perimeters and internal or external corners. Budget Considerations: For non-critical interior wall areas, cost-effective 80g products may be used to reduce expenses; however, for critical load-bearing areas-such as the ground floor of exterior walls and inner/outer corners-priority should be given to reinforced versions weighing 140g or more to avoid the hidden costs of future rework and repairs.
