The core material of fiberglass mesh is fiberglass filament-an inorganic, non-metallic material. Its primary constituents are inorganic silicates such as silicon dioxide and calcium oxide; it lacks a carbon-based backbone and features a structural framework dominated by silicon-oxygen tetrahedra.

 

Base Raw Materials: Ordinary glass is melted at high temperatures (approximately 1500°C) and drawn through platinum-rhodium alloy bushings into fine filaments. The diameter of a single filament typically ranges from 5 to 24 μm-merely one-twentieth the thickness of a human hair.

 

Functional Modifiers: To enhance alkali resistance, 14.5%–16.7% zirconium dioxide and 6% titanium dioxide are added to the raw materials. Additionally, the mesh is coated with alkali-resistant polymers-such as styrene-butadiene rubber or pure acrylic emulsion-to further improve resistance to alkali and slippage.

 

Classification Differences:Standard products are typically woven from medium-alkali or alkali-free fiberglass yarn. Specialized alkali-resistant versions utilize zirconium-containing alkali-resistant fiberglass yarn directly, achieving high alkali-resistance retention without relying heavily on coatings.
