Product introduction

Interior Wall Mesh Cloth is produced from medium-alkali or alkali-free fiberglass yarn and finished with a polymer coating suitable for interior finishing materials. It is mainly used as a reinforcement within gypsum plaster, wall putty, skim coats and joint compounds, where the mesh becomes part of the finished layer rather than remaining a separate component.

 

From what we see during production and customer applications, interior walls rarely crack across large continuous areas. More often, the first signs appear around drywall joints, repaired chases, window corners or where two different substrates meet. These locations dry at different rates and respond differently to seasonal temperature or humidity changes. Reinforcing only these critical areas is often sufficient, although some finishing systems specify full-surface reinforcement.

The fabric itself is intentionally lightweight. Interior coatings are generally much thinner than exterior renders, so reinforcement must provide stability without affecting the smoothness of the finished wall. For this reason, finer yarns and smaller mesh openings are commonly selected for interior applications.

The mesh is embedded while the plaster or joint compound remains workable. As the material passes through the openings, it surrounds the fiberglass yarn and cures as a single layer. Drying shrinkage still occurs because it is part of the normal curing process. Minor building movement also continues throughout the life of the structure. The role of the reinforcement is not to eliminate these changes, but to reduce stress concentration so that fine surface cracking is less likely to develop.

One detail that sometimes receives too little attention is the relationship between mesh weight and coating thickness. A heavier fabric is not automatically a better choice. When decorative coats are very thin, excessive reinforcement may become more difficult to conceal. Matching the mesh to the finishing system generally produces a more consistent appearance after painting or wallpaper installation.

Continuous fiberglass yarn gives the fabric stable tensile properties while keeping the roll easy to handle on site. The polymer coating improves resistance to alkaline construction materials and helps maintain the integrity of the yarn after long-term contact with gypsum or cement-based compounds. Consistent mesh geometry also allows plaster to penetrate evenly through the fabric, producing a uniform bond after curing.

Installers often comment on handling rather than laboratory data. A roll that opens flat, maintains straight edges and cuts cleanly usually saves more time on site than one with slightly higher tensile values but poor handling characteristics. Because of this, we monitor winding quality and coating uniformity throughout production in addition to routine physical testing.

Applications

Interior Wall Mesh Cloth is commonly specified for gypsum plaster systems, drywall joint treatment, skim coat reinforcement, wall repairs before repainting, ceiling finishing, decorative coating systems, residential construction and commercial interior fit-out projects. It is equally suitable for refurbishment work where existing plaster remains sound but localized reinforcement is required before applying a new finish.

 

Storage conditions also influence installation quality. Rolls should remain dry and stay in their original packaging until use. During application, the reinforcement should be positioned within the plaster or joint compound rather than immediately beneath the decorative surface. Sufficient coverage on both sides of the mesh helps achieve more uniform reinforcement.
