Interior Wall Mesh is a woven fiberglass reinforcement fabric used to improve the crack resistance of interior plaster and finishing systems. The mesh is produced from fiberglass yarns woven into a stable open-grid structure, then coated with an alkali-resistant polymer to ensure compatibility with gypsum, putty and cement-based materials.

When embedded in the base coat, the mesh becomes part of the plaster layer rather than remaining on the surface. As the wall experiences drying shrinkage, temperature fluctuations or slight structural movement, the reinforcement distributes tensile stresses throughout the surrounding area instead of allowing them to concentrate at individual points where cracks are most likely to develop.

During interior finishing projects, we often find that cracking first appears around openings, material transitions and repaired sections. Reinforcing these areas with fiberglass mesh helps maintain the continuity of the plaster layer and improves the long-term stability of the finished surface.

Material Construction

The interior wall mesh is woven from continuous fiberglass yarns with balanced warp and weft construction. After weaving, the fabric receives an alkali-resistant coating that protects the glass fibers when they remain in long-term contact with cementitious or gypsum-based materials.

 

The regular mesh geometry allows fresh plaster or putty to penetrate through the openings and fully encapsulate the reinforcement. Once cured, the mesh and finishing material form a single reinforced layer with improved resistance to tensile stress.

 

Another point worth mentioning is that fiberglass reinforcement does not eliminate structural movement. Instead, it helps spread localized stresses over a larger surface, reducing the possibility of visible cracking caused by normal building movement or material shrinkage.

• The woven fiberglass structure provides high tensile strength while adding very little weight to the wall system. It reinforces plaster layers without noticeably increasing their thickness.

• The alkali-resistant coating improves durability in cement-based and gypsum applications and helps preserve the strength of the fiberglass throughout the service life of the wall.

• The open mesh structure allows moisture within fresh plaster to escape naturally during curing. This promotes uniform drying and contributes to good adhesion between the reinforcement and the surrounding material.

• The mesh remains flexible during installation. It can be cut easily and conforms well to flat surfaces, internal corners and irregular wall details commonly encountered during finishing work.
