Crack Repair Fiberglass Tape is a woven fiberglass reinforcement tape used for repairing cracks, joints and damaged areas on drywall, plaster, cement-based walls and other building substrates. It combines a fiberglass mesh with a pressure-sensitive adhesive, allowing installers to position the tape before applying plaster, putty, joint compound or repair mortar.

From our experience, the repair material alone is rarely the reason a crack returns. More often, the surrounding substrate continues to expand, shrink or move after the repair has cured. Reinforcement helps transfer these stresses away from the original crack instead of allowing them to concentrate in the same location again.

We manufacture the mesh from continuous fiberglass yarn and apply an alkali-resistant polymer treatment after weaving. The adhesive is added during the final production stage. How the Reinforcement Works

The reinforced section spreads tensile stress over a larger area. This helps reduce the possibility of repaired cracks reopening during normal building movement.

 

Another factor often overlooked is drying shrinkage. Cement- and gypsum-based materials continue changing during the curing period. Fine movement at this stage is usually invisible, yet it often determines whether a repair remains stable over time. Fiberglass reinforcement helps control these localized stresses while the repair material develops its final strength.

 

We have also found that proper embedding is more important than simply selecting a heavier mesh. Even a high-strength tape cannot perform as expected if it is only partially covered by the repair compound.
