Fiberglass Reinforcement Tape is manufactured from woven fiberglass mesh and supplied in rolls for reinforcement, joint treatment and repair work. According to the application, the tape can be produced with an acrylic or rubber-based pressure-sensitive adhesive, or supplied without adhesive where embedding into mortar or plaster is preferred.

The woven fiberglass mesh provides reinforcement within the finished system rather than acting as a surface layer. Once covered with joint compound, plaster or repair mortar, the mesh becomes integrated with the surrounding material and helps maintain continuity across repaired areas.

The same construction is also used outside the building sector. Packaging, insulation assembly and light industrial reinforcement are common examples, although the adhesive system and mesh specification normally differ from those used for wall finishing.

For wall repair, the Fiberglass Reinforcement Tape is positioned over the joint before the finishing compound is applied. The repair material passes through the mesh openings and surrounds the reinforcement completely during curing.

This produces a reinforced layer instead of a simple surface patch. Crack resistance depends not only on the mesh itself, but also on the quality of the repair compound, substrate preparation and curing conditions. In practice, these factors usually influence long-term performance more than tape thickness alone.

When the Fiberglass Reinforcement Tape is selected for packaging or bundling, the woven fiberglass mesh limits elongation under load while the adhesive provides the initial bond to the substrate. Different adhesive systems are normally chosen according to storage conditions, temperature and surface characteristics.

Material Characteristics

The woven fiberglass mesh provides stable reinforcement with low elongation and balanced strength in both directions.

 

Alkali-resistant grades are intended for direct contact with cement-based and gypsum-based materials.

 

Fiberglass itself does not absorb moisture, will not rot and is unaffected by biological growth. Performance in outdoor service is determined mainly by the selected coating and adhesive formulation.

 

The open mesh structure allows repair materials to penetrate the reinforcement without creating excessive build-up on the finished surface.

Typical uses include drywall joint treatment, plaster reinforcement, crack repair, cement board installation, insulation systems and local reinforcement around openings or substrate transitions.
