Alkali Resistant Fiberglass Tissue is a lightweight nonwoven reinforcement used where dimensional stability, crack control and long-term durability are required. We manufacture the tissue from alkali-resistant glass fibres and control fibre distribution throughout the forming process to achieve a uniform sheet with consistent thickness and surface quality.

Unlike woven fabrics, fiberglass tissue has no obvious warp or weft direction. This allows resin, coatings or cementitious materials to wet the fibres more evenly during application. From our experience, this characteristic is particularly useful where a smooth surface finish is required in addition to reinforcement.

The product is commonly incorporated into cement-based materials, waterproofing membranes, FRP laminates and composite components. The final construction depends on the manufacturing process of the finished product rather than on the tissue itself.

Material Behaviour

After the alkali resistant fiberglass tissue is embedded, the fibre network becomes part of the surrounding material. Instead of carrying loads at isolated points, it spreads stress throughout the reinforced area and helps reduce localized cracking.

 

Another factor often overlooked is the alkaline environment created during cement hydration. Standard glass fibres gradually lose strength under these conditions. Alkali-resistant glass is developed specifically to withstand long-term exposure, making it suitable for cementitious systems where ordinary fiberglass products are not recommended.

 

The tissue also improves handling during lamination. Resin or coating materials pass through the fibre network readily, helping produce a continuous composite layer after curing.

The fibre distribution remains uniform across the sheet, providing stable reinforcement without adding significant weight.

Alkali-resistant glass maintains its performance in prolonged contact with cement, mortar and similar mineral-based materials.

The tissue adapts easily to curved or irregular surfaces because of its nonwoven structure. It can be trimmed on site using standard cutting tools and integrates readily with hand lay-up or continuous production processes.

Fiberglass itself is not affected by moisture, does not corrode and tolerates a wide range of service temperatures. Actual durability depends on the complete composite system, including resin, binder or cement matrix.
